Meharry Student National Dental Association (SNDA) is conducting a drive-thru shoe drive drop-off on April 19th to raise funds to help student members travel to a national conference in Kansas City, MO in July 2025. Meharry SNDA will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used, and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used, and new shoes at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry 1005 D.B. Todd Blvd, Nashville, TN 37208.
All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain, and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.
“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Neriah Alexander, Fundraising Chair of Meharry SNDA. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for our future dentists to connect to become your greatest doctors by attending our annual conference in Kansas City, MO in July 2025, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to Meharry SNDA, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
About (Meharry SNDA)
Student National Dental Association (SNDA) originated from concerned dental students at Meharry Medical College in 1970. The inception and creation of the National Dental Association by Meharry students organized and put together the foundation of what has become the largest minority student dental organization in the United States today. Meharry is currently the largest chapter.
The primary objective is to become a supportive mechanism for minority dental students in hopes of establishing and providing a national network of communication among minority people as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services. All dental students enrolled in the School of Dentistry are members of SNDA.
