CARTI PARTY: Houston fans blame long lines, a late start for chaos before Playboi Carti concert shut down

“2021 finna graduate collegeeee,” she wrote. “taking my graduation pics today. I can’t wait for y’all to see.”

The Houston rapper has frequently mentioned pursuing a degree in health administration. She started taking classes at Prairie View A&M University and transferred to community college before landing at TSU. She worked on her degree online, somewhere between sold-out shows and Grammy wins.

Megan was inspired to continue by her mother Holly Thomas, who died in 2019 after battling brain cancer; and her grandmother, who was a teacher. Megan plans to open local assisted-living facilities.

“I’ve always seen everybody in my life be independent,” she told People in 2020. “My daddy passed away when I was 15, so my mama was still going hard taking care of us. If we were going through money problems, my mother and my two grandmothers always made sure I didn’t know. We could’ve been struggling, but they made it work. I’ve always seen strong women making it work, so I’ve always wanted to have that same drive the women in my family have. I know I get a lot of my strength from my mother and both of my grandmothers.”
And she’s paying it forward. Earlier this year, Megan and Fashion Nova presented the Woman on Top grant to TSU Last year, Megan’s Don’t Stop Scholarship Fund, named for her hit single, offered two $10,000 scholarships to women of color pursuing a degree in any field of study.

In July, she tweeted that her “college experience has been a roller coaster!” and rallied fans that were pursuing the same goals.

“Don’t get discouraged!” she said. “You can chase your dreams and your education at the same time.”

Megan releases her “Something for Thee Hotties” mixtape Friday.
