NBA Player Tristan Thompson Becomes A U.S. Citizen

The Canadian-born basketball star received his U.S. citizenship on November 24.
Canadian-born NBA star Tristan Thompson has officially been granted his United States citizenship. On Tuesday (Nov. 24) the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Twitter account shared a photo of the 29-year-old taking the Oath of Allegiance.
“I came to the US on a student visa and have always had big dreams,” Thompson said according to USCIS. “I’m now truly living the American dream.”
“Congrats on reaching your goals,” the tweet read. “Best of luck with NBA #Celtics as a #NewUSCitizen!”
The news of Thompson’s U.S. citizenship comes as he also shared exciting news that he would be heading to Boston to continue his professional basketball career with the Celtics after playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers for nine seasons. Earlier this month, Thompson signed a $19 million, two-year deal with the Boston Celtics to play center and power forward, according to Yahoo Sports.
