Justin Timberlake was not drunk at the time of his arrest. Ed Burke, Timberlake’s lawyer, made the comments after a court hearing on Friday.
JT was busted for drunk driving last month after partying with friends in the Hamptons. Cops say he blew a stop sign and swerved as he was following some friends. He claimed that he only drank one martini.
“The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI,” Burke said in a statement. “The police made a number of very significant errors in this case… Sometimes the police make mistakes, and this is just one of those instances.”
Sources tell TMZ that a woman and her husband were in the car that Justin was following. The woman got out to approach the cops and began questioning him, asking, “Are you going to arrest Justin Timberlake?”
She then offered to drive Justin to their house, but that didn’t work. The woman then asked the cops if she could take Justin’s car to her house, given that Justin was going to jail. The cops obliged, and she got in Justin’s car and left.
The woman had arrived at The American Hotel 2 hours before Justin and began drinking. Yet the 2 cops who were on the scene let her take the wheel and drive away. Now Justin’s lawyer will argue the 2 young cops were off in their judgment. If they were unable to properly evaluate her, how could they properly evaluate Justin?
JT’s lawyer will now make that argument, along with other mistakes made that night to the judge as part of his motion to dismiss the case.
Timberlake was not in court on Friday. He will attend the next hearing on Aug. 2 virtually.
