Early this month, Dr. Dre was honored with the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy. But that wasn’t the original plan.TMZ has learned that according to Grammy sources, Janet Jackson was originally due to be the recipient of the newly created award. Apparently the reason she wasn’t selected was a combination of logistics and politics. She was unavailable to attend the Grammy week Black Music Collective event. At that point, the plan shifted to possibly giving out the award on air, but that was nixed over bad blood with the CBS.Insiders say that Janet’s team and Grammy organizers initially worked together to try and find a way to apologize for or acknowledge how the network treated her during the infamous wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2004. Apparently, things “just got too complicated” and those talks fizzled out, leading to Dr. Dre received the award instead.
