2022 Grammys get a new date, move to Las Vegas for 1st time in history

The 64th annual Grammy Awards officially have a new date and location.
After canceling plans to hold the awards ceremony on Jan. 31 due to COVID-19’s omicron variant, the Recording Academy announced Tuesday that the 2022 ceremony will now take place Sunday, April 3 live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on CBS. The show will also be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
This year’s CMT Music Awards, originally set for the Grammys’ new date, will now shift to a later date in the month.
“We are excited to take the GRAMMYs to Las Vegas for the very first time, and to put on a world-class show,” Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, said in a press release. “From the moment we announced the postponement of the original show date, we have been inundated with heartfelt messages of support and solidarity from the artist community. We are humbled by their generosity and grateful for their unwavering commitment to the GRAMMY Awards and the Academy’s mission.”
The leading nominee for the Grammy Awards this year is Jon Batiste, who has 11 nominations. He is followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R., all of whom have eight apiece. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo also earned seven nominations each.
Comedian Trevor Noah of “The Daily Show” will return as the host for the ceremony.
