D.L. Hughley Comedy Series Based On His Life In Development At Fox As A Part Of CBS Studios/NAACP Partnership

D.L. Hughley could be coming back to television in a comedy series that is in development at Fox. Shadow and Act have confirmed that the series is in development at the network and is from CBS Studios via a partnership with the NAACP that was set last year. 3 Arts and Fox Entertainment are also in on the project. Hughley is not only starring in the project, but also serves as an executive producer, writer, and co-creator.
The logline: Based on his life, unfiltered, unapologetic, and opinionated radio host DL Hughley is free at work but under siege at home as he navigates life as a husband and father to an LGBTQ+ daughter, a son on the autism spectrum whose white girlfriend lives with them, and another daughter who can’t leave his credit card alone.
Owen Smith co-created with Hughley and also write and executive produces. Other executive producers include Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky for 3 Arts and Sheila Ducksworth under the CBS/NAACP partnership.
The studio has given the project a script commitment with a penalty.
Veteran comedian Hughley, who currently hosts his own radio show, famously starred in his ABC/UPN sitcom, The Hughleys.
Smith, also a comic, has extensive credits that include black-ish, Survivor’s Remorse, and The Last O.G.
The untitled comedy series is one of five projects in development under the NAACP/CBS Studios deal, including a scripted Little Rock Nine series at Apple TV+.
