Charge dropped against suspect involved in death of Hendersonville officer

A judge has dismissed a reckless homicide charge against one of the two men involved in the death of a Hendersonville Police officer. Officer Spencer Bristol was hit and killed by a vehicle during a police chase in December which police say both Kevin Jordan and Emani Martin were involved. Police say Jordan was driving the car that Officer Bristol was chasing on Vietnam Vets Parkway. When the vehicle stopped, Jordan was the first to be arrested. Martin continued to run from Bristol, and that’s when Bristol was hit while crossing Interstate 65.

“I believe the state has insufficient evidence to charge him with reckless homicide,” said Judge Holt. “The court finds his actions were reckless and they ceased at the time he pulled over and surrendered, as shown on the video. I have not heard any proof he directed Mr. Martin in any way, shape or form.”

The men face multiple charges out of Sumner and Davidson County. However, on Monday, Davidson County General Sessions Court Judge John Aaron Holt dropped the reckless homicide charge against Jordan. The men still face charges in Sumner County. Martin was charged with evading arrest and criminal responsibility for reckless endangerment. Jordan was charged with felony evading, reckless endangerment and traffic related offenses.
