Binge worthy Shows of 2018

Written by:Eboné Merrimon

Get your popcorn ready as some major shows are set to premiere this year. These shows feature some of our favorite stars along with attention grabbing concepts making them a must see. If looking for a show to watch then here are some shows to binge on this year.

9-1-1

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk the drama series focuses on the lives and work experiences of first responders as they take on some peculiar and life threatening situations. The show also highlights how each individual character deals with the stress of this heroic job along with the stress within their personal lives. Stars featured in this program include Peter Krause, Connie Britton, and the one and only Angela Basset. As a Bassett fan since she set that car on fire in Waiting to Exhale I know this show will be a must see as she proves be a well-rounded actress. The show kicked off last week on FOX and already has me setting alarms to never miss it.

Grown-ish

Yara Shahidi blew us away in her role as eldest daughter Zoey Johnson on Black-ish and she hopes to keep everyone’s attention in the spin off, Grown-ish. Based on her Black-ish character Zoey, Shahidi plays as the typical college student adjusting to college life and the difficulties of dating, friends, and class schedules. It’s unclear if Black-ish characters will appear as a cameo but no matter what this show is to be a hit as the spotlight shines on the young actress since she’s grown-ish. To follow the journey check it out on FreeForm this month.

The Four: Battle for Stardom (Jan. 4th)

This year seems to be the year for black comics with Marvel’s movie Black Panther coming out in February and this DC comic show Black Lightning coming out Jan. 16th. The CW program stars actor Cress Williams as a retired superhero now principal, Jefferson Price, with the power to harness electricity and hit his targets like a thunder bolt. Price hung up his cape to focus on his fatherly duties but as a local gang causes havoc on the streets he chooses to put back on his cape to protect not only the innocent but his family. With a storyline that’s for the culture this show is awaited with anticipation and will be your new show for the family (or just you).

The Chi

Showtime aired a tearjerker this month as they featured a predominately black cast living on the south side of Chicago. From the mind of Oscar winner Lena Waithe comes this new drama infused show depicting various perspectives on life in Chicago while presenting more than the stereotypical image of the city. A tissue is an accessory as topics like family strife, gang warfare, and self-identity seem to be a few targeted subjects that will be featured and maybe another Oscar will be in the future for Waithe with this show

Let us know what shows you’re excited too see and what do you think of these shows?.
