Kentucky High School Lifts Hairstyle Ban After Furious Parents and Students Call Policy Racist
After learning about the ridiculous hairstyle policy at Butler Traditional High School, parents and students spoke up!
The schools policy forbid students to wear African American hairstyles such as Cornrows, Twists, Afros, Dreadlocks etc. and labelled these styles as being “extreme, distracting, and attention-getting.”
The policy stated that students who come to school in violation of the dress code will not be allowed to attend class or circulate through the school until their attire is corrected. The policy goes on to state, “We feel that a student’s academic success is directly correlated to appropriate attire and appearance.”
The school’s students and parents along with Attica Scott (State Representative) took to social media to express their feelings and shed led light on the school’s unfair and racial policy.
Days after the controversy broke, the school suspended the policy, and a new one was created.
