Black women…whats this clownish perception of beauty that we seem to be adopting these days?
Now, I can understand wanting to add length to your hair. I get it, it makes us feel more girly. Longer eyelashes make us feel flirty, I mean, what real lady doesn’t enjoy an occasional batting of lash at a cute guy?! (Don’t judge me..lol)
And having pretty nails adds a Lil pizazz to our gestures and mannerisms. Plus, men love to see a well kept woman and polished lady..right fellas?!
However, doesn’t it seem like we’re taking it to the extreme these days? We change our hair color, cool. But why platinum, electric blue, and gray?
We extend our lashes…cool….but see, here’s the trick to extensions…the purpose is to try and make people believe that they are actually yours. Why does it seem that we have to take it to the extreme and almost look like we’re trying out for the UniverSoul Circus??
I was accepting of the drawstring ponytails when they hit the scene, it was great!! But this quick weav’n must come to a stop…it’s destroying our community!!! LOL
It’s funny because I absolutely LOVE my culture and my people. We have the most creative spirits and we LOVE to be sharp when we step out. We show how art is in EVERYTHING by the way we adorn ourselves, move our bodies, and articulate our feelings. But, sometimes we tend to do the MOST. What ya’ll think??
